Save the Little Creative in You From Monsters

I turn 33 this year. My knees sound like Pop Rocks.  I have a mortgage.

Yet, I still feel like a child when I enter certain rooms. One disapproving glance can send me back to a time when little me could shut out the world and not put down my Crayolas for hours.  In the last three decades of life, I’ve realized that hiding from rejection only results in false safety and loneliness.

I like to imagine my inner child as Newt from 1986's Aliens.  Adult me is Ripley; I am desperate to protect that sweet little girl. I am her. She is me.  We just take turns operating the body. I let Ripley handle the scary monsters. But I need my little self to help me create things with love, and maybe with more practice, without fear.

That's exactly why I am hosting a cyanotype + writing workshop dedicated to honoring the child in you. I truly believe that when you put down the fear of perfection, you can meet a more honest, creative version of yourself.

Cyanotype & Word: A Workshop in Play and Memory

Join Erica Lynn and Taylor Sengstack at James’ Tea Room for two hours of expressive writing, cyanotype prints from childhood photographs, and creative play. We’ll revisit the joy of making, honor our younger selves.
